Jeremiah Johnson led Rudder (3-12) with 10 points, and JoDarius Hayward had eight, but going 7 for 24 at the free-throw line ultimately hurt any chance the Rangers had of catching the Spartans.
Tahaad Davis and Stennett Prior led Seven Lakes (10-6) with 12 points each.
Rudder will open play in the Madisonville tournament against Teague at 9 a.m. and Shepherd at 3 p.m. Dec. 27.
