The Rudder girls gymnastics have big showing at state meet

The Rudder girls gymnastics team struggled on balance beam all season, but it sure didn’t seem like that Friday.

Led by Mykah Duncan’s 9.500, the Lady Rangers had a solid showing on the beam with five of six Rudder gymnasts hitting their routine at the Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association state meet at Bryan’s Viking Gym.

Rudder finished the first day of the meet in 14th place. Rockwall leads the girls team standings with 117.600 points, while College Station is in sixth at 115.325.

“We didn’t come in with any preconceived notions or that we have to beat somebody,” Rudder girls gymnastics coach Cali Currie said. “Just qualifying for state was our biggest goal, so now that we’re here, knowing that we were one of the bottom four teams out of 12, that we just wanted to come in and have fun and have our best showing.
