Rudder senior gymnast Justin Pollock wanted to make his last meet in the Rudder gymnastics gym special. He did just that, winning the boys all-around title at the Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association Region 2 district gymnastics meet on Wednesday.

“I just couldn’t help but be proud and be humbled that I could end it on a really good note,” Pollock said.

Pollock won the title with a score of 51.400, tying for first in the parallel bars (8.700), winning the high bar (9.200), taking second in pommel horse (8.300) and tying teammate Jason Hronek for silver in rings with an 8.200 mark. As a team, the Rangers came in second to Round Rock with 138.800 points to the Dragons’ 151.000.

“[High bar] is definitely an event I like to end on,” Pollock said. “I’ve got a lot of energy, and I like to go big on it. It’s a lot of fun.”

College Station’s Kalyn Dujka and Katelyn Kolodziejczyk came in first and second, respectively, with scores of 38.300 and 37.750 in the girls all-around, and the Lady Cougars won their second-straight district title with a score of 114.000. Round Rock (112.300) was second and Rudder (105.950) third. Madison Miller led the Lady Rangers with a third-place finish in the all-around with a score of 37.500, taking second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.700.

“I think that everybody stepped up to the plate today,” College Station head gymnastics coach Julie Foght said. “Everybody did their job. We had some mistakes, but when they had a mistake, somebody else did a better routine than they normally do, so it kind of evened out.”

Foght added that Alysse Loopstra and Faith Street stepped up for College Station. Dujka picked up wins in vault (9.800) and balance beam (9.650), and Kolodziejczyk won the uneven bars (9.750) and floor exercise (9.800), but they both were proud of their teammates stepping up and placing.

“You can tell that we’ve been working hard because there were a lot more of us who are out here giving 110 percent,” Dujka said. “Their scores really reflected how hard they’ve been working, and I’m really proud of everybody.”

Irene Benavides-Perez also had a solid meet, tying for second in vault (9.500) and winning silver outright in floor exercise with a score of 9.550. Dujka also took third on the uneven bars with a score of 9.550, and Cadence Mouton tied for third on beam with a 9.450 mark. Foght was proud of how her team stayed focused on the beam, the Lady Cougars’ final event, to hold off Round Rock.

“I just told everyone to stay calm and believe in themselves,” Kolodziejczyk said. “We’ve all done these routines many times, and we know what to do.”

Consol’s Zachary Leopold took fourth in the all-around, finishing second in floor exercise with a score of 9.100. Rudder’s Caleb Guitron tied for third in the event with an 8.700. Hronek came in third in vault with a score of 9.100, and Jabarie Carter tied for third in parallel bars with a 7.500.

All three girls teams qualified for the Region 2 championship, which will be April 2-3 in Round Rock. The top three teams at the eight-team regional meet will compete in the state meet, which is April 26-27 at Bryan.
